Vic: Disability workers expected to start industrial action
Victorian disability carers are expected to start industrial action today after a meeting
over wages and conditions.
Delegates of the Health and Community Services Union will meet at midday (AEST) to
consider a state government offer on their enterprise bargaining claim.
Victoria's 5,000 disability carers want an 18 per cent pay rise over three years, while
the government is offering them nine per cent over the same period.
They are also seeking better working conditions, which include improved rosters and workloads.
Union state secretary LLOYD WILLIAMS says the government's position is unacceptable.
He says the first stage of industrial action would include bans on financial management
of funds and any non-critical documentation.
The union delegates will meet at noon at the Melbourne Trades Hall Council to decide
on whether to commence industrial action.
