QLD:Aurukun killer loses appeal
BRISBANE, Dec 21 AAP - A man who stabbed his partner to death has had his appeal against
his conviction refused.
Bill Morris Walmbeng was found guilty in the Cairns Supreme Court in May of murdering
his de facto partner at the remote Aboriginal community of Aurukun in 2008.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
During the trial the court was told he stabbed her seven times with a knife, rupturing
her organs and causing her death.
In November, Walmbeng took his case to the Court of Appeal in Brisbane, where he argued
the jury's verdict was unreasonable when considered against the evidence.
In a written judgment handed down on Tuesday, the Court of Appeal rejected this submission
by ruling it was open to the jury to find Walmbeng guilty of murder.
