NSW: Hotel brawl proof of need for new pub laws: Rees

NSW Premier NATHAN REES says a brawl involving up to 600 people outside a western Sydney
bar is proof new regulations to curb alcohol-related violence are warranted.

Police had to call in the riot squad .. Pol Air helicopter and the dog squad to break
up the crowd outside Parramatta's Roxy Hotel at about 11.45pm (AEDT) yesterday.

Two security guards had to be taken to hospital after one was glassed in the brawl.

The Roxy Hotel is one of 48 pubs which must follow new regulations brought in by the
NSW government.

The laws include a 2am lock out and drinks must be served in plastic cups after midnight.

Mr REES says the brawl is proof strict measures are needed.
